CASE Construction Equipment is one of the oldest names in heavy machinery. Today it is part of CNH, the group that also owns New Holland and Case IH.
History
Jerome Increase Case founded his threshing machine company in Racine, Wisconsin, in 1842. J.I. Case went on to build steam traction engines and tractors, and in 1957 introduced the Case 320, the industry's first factory-integrated tractor loader backhoe. The company's construction and agricultural businesses later separated: construction machines are branded CASE, farm machines Case IH.
What CASE is known for
- Backhoe loaders such as the 580 Super N, a favourite of North American utilities and municipalities.
- Skid steers and compact track loaders, including the SV340B, with vertical-lift high-capacity designs.
- Excavators like the CX210E, developed with Sumitomo of Japan.
- Engines from FPT Industrial (also CNH), with SCR-only emissions systems on many models that avoid a diesel particulate filter.
Buying advice
CASE machines are typically priced below Cat and Deere, making them good value for contractors and municipalities. Dealer support is strongest in North America, Europe and Latin America.
