The global construction equipment market is led by a small group of very large manufacturers, followed by a long list of specialists. Industry rankings, such as the annual "Yellow Table" published by KHL Group, compare manufacturers by equipment sales. The order shifts from year to year with currency movements and regional demand, but the top names have been remarkably consistent.

The global leaders

Regional strengths

  • North America: Caterpillar, Deere, CASE and Bobcat dominate, with Komatsu, Kubota and Takeuchi strong in their segments.
  • Europe: Volvo, Liebherr, JCB, Wacker Neuson and the Wirtgen Group compete alongside Cat and Komatsu.
  • China: SANY, XCMG, LiuGong and Zoomlion lead the domestic market.
  • Japan: Komatsu, Hitachi, Kubota, Kobelco, Takeuchi and Yanmar.

What matters for buyers

The biggest brand is not automatically the best choice. Local dealer support, parts availability, the fit of a specific model to your work and resale value in your region usually matter more. Explore all manufacturers we cover.
