CVT or powershift on a 200 hp tractor?

Most brands now offer both on mid-range tractors. Our summary:

  • CVT (Fendt Vario, Deere AutoPowr/IVT, Case IH CVXDrive, New Holland Auto Command, Massey Dyna-VT): ideal for PTO work, loader work, variable-speed field operations and transport. Higher purchase price.
  • Powershift: excellent for heavy draft work at steady speeds, often simpler and cheaper to repair.

For mixed farms and contractors, CVTs have become the default. For dedicated tillage tractors, powershifts remain strong.

What did you choose, and any regrets?
