Chinese excavators in 2026: worth it, or false economy?

SANY, XCMG, LiuGong and others now sell excavators in most markets, often 20–40% cheaper than Japanese, American or European equivalents. Our view after following the market:
The machines have improved a lot. Major components (engines, pumps, valves) frequently come from well-known suppliers, and fit and finish are much better than a decade ago.
The real questions are local:
- How close is the nearest dealer with a stocked parts warehouse?
- How quickly can a field technician reach you?
- What is the warranty, and is it in writing?
- What will the machine be worth in five years? Resale values are generally lower and less predictable.
If you keep machines for a long time, run them hard and have a strong local dealer, the numbers can work well. If you trade every 3–4 years, premium brands may cost less overall.
