Skid steers are bought on capacity, lift path, comfort and attachment compatibility. Here are the models we would shortlist in each class. Read our skid steer guide first if you are new to the category.

Small frame (under ~900 kg / 2,000 lb ROC)

  • Bobcat S450: compact radial-lift machine for barns, gardens and tight spaces.
  • Cat 226D3: modern cab and Cat attachment support in a compact frame.

Mid-size (900–1,300 kg / 2,000–2,900 lb ROC)

  • Bobcat S66: the R-Series successor to the legendary S650, with better visibility.
  • Cat 262D3: vertical lift, sealed and pressurised cab, Smart Attachments.
  • Kubota SSV75: side-entry door is a genuine safety and convenience advantage.
  • CASE SR210B: strong breakout force at a competitive price.

Large frame (over 1,300 kg / 2,900 lb ROC)

Radial or vertical lift?

Choose radial for digging, grading and pushing; choose vertical for loading trucks and handling pallets.

Don't forget the tracks question
