DPF keeps clogging on a machine that idles a lot: what helps?

A frequent problem with Tier 4 Final and Stage V machines used on jobs with lots of idling (traffic management, standby, light lifting) is a diesel particulate filter that fills quickly and needs frequent parked regenerations.
What typically helps:
- Reduce idling. Use auto-idle and auto-shutdown features; many machines now have them as standard.
- Let regenerations finish. Interrupting active regens is a common cause of repeat problems.
- Use the correct low-ash engine oil (API CK-4 / ACEA E6/E9 or as specified). High-ash oil fills the filter with ash that cannot be burned off.
- Check for underlying causes: leaking injectors, EGR faults or turbo oil leaks increase soot.
- Schedule a parked regeneration at the end of light-duty days if the soot level is high.
