Overview
The John Deere 850L is the largest of Deere's L-series crawler dozers and competes with the Cat D6 and Komatsu D65 class, though it is slightly lighter. It replaced the 850K, keeping the dual-path hydrostatic drive that Deere has refined over many years.
Dual-path hydrostatic drive
Each track has its own pump and motor. That means the dozer can maintain full power to both tracks while turning, and counter-rotate in place. Operators can set the machine to stay at a chosen speed regardless of load, which makes production dozing and finish grading consistent.
SmartGrade
Deere offers SmartGrade, a factory-integrated 3D grade control system with masts or mastless sensors, as well as entry-level features like Slope Control. The PAT blade version is particularly popular with site developers.
Who it suits
Site development contractors and road builders in North and South America who want a hydrostatic dozer with modern grade control and a strong Deere dealer.
