Overview
The Komatsu PC210LC-11 is the current generation of Komatsu's best-selling medium excavator. The "LC" (long carriage) undercarriage gives a stable platform for lifting, and the -11 series brought a cleaner engine, a redesigned cab and a stronger work equipment frame.
Engine and hydraulics
Komatsu's six-cylinder SAA4D107E-3 engine (four cylinders, 6.7 litres in some markets) works with a closed-centre load-sensing hydraulic system. Komatsu offers several working modes; in Economy mode the PC210 is one of the most fuel-efficient machines in its class, an advantage that adds up quickly over 1,500 hours a year. Operators typically describe the controls as smooth and progressive, making the machine easy to use for fine grading and lifting.
Technology
Every PC210LC-11 comes with KOMTRAX, which reports location, hours, fuel use, idle time and warnings. The PC210LCi-11 adds Komatsu's intelligent Machine Control (iMC): the sensors are built into the cylinders, not bolted on, and the machine semi-automatically stops the bucket at the design surface. For contractors doing bulk excavation to design or finished slopes, it can remove most of the need for grade checkers.
Who it suits
Contractors who want a well-proven, fuel-efficient excavator with strong resale value, and fleets that value Komatsu's dealer service and long-term parts support. The iMC version is aimed at firms doing a lot of precision earthworks.
Alternatives
The Caterpillar 320 is the most direct competitor; the Hitachi ZX210LC-7 and Volvo EC220E are strong alternatives, and the SANY SY215C offers similar size for less money.
